It all started with a webinar. A simple, one-hour session unexpectedly sparked something deep within me. It ignited unshakable excitement. I felt a renewed passion. Quite honestly, it created a desire to tell the world about homeopathy in a way that truly feels like homeopathy. That’s how Empowered by Homeopathy was born.
And now, here we are. Full circle. Back to The Joy of Homeopathy. Back to Em Colley. Back to the sheer delight of learning, sharing, and—let’s be honest—talking about remedies like they’re our dearest friends. Because, in a way, they are.
This time, I had the privilege of spending a magical hour in conversation with Em. We dove deeper into the heart of homeopathy. We also explored storytelling and life itself. We talked about her book. We touched on her journey and her deep, unshakable love for this healing art. Yes, we even talked about soccer. Because why not?
Homeopathy: A Story Waiting to Be Told
One of the most fascinating things about Em’s approach is the way she weaves stories. Homeopathy, she argues, isn’t just about prescribing remedies. It’s about listening to narratives. It involves decoding patterns. It’s also about watching how a well-matched remedy shifts the story a person tells themselves.
In fact, she put it so beautifully:
“Remedies are like characters in a patient’s journey. They are at there just at the right time. They help to move the story forward.”
And that makes sense, doesn’t it? No one remembers a list of symptoms, but we do remember stories. Research from Harvard suggests a fascinating fact. We’re 20 times more likely to remember something when it’s told as a narrative. This is opposed to a set of facts.
This is something we regularly explore at OCHM’s Power Hour. It is a special event held every couple of months. During this event, we dive into unique homeopathic material and clinic-relevant topics. Power Hour sessions remind us that homeopathy goes beyond science. It embodies an art form. And what’s art without a good story?
The Magic of Being Heard
Another gem from our chat? The sheer power of listening.
We don’t talk about this enough in homeopathy. We focus so much on the remedy that we sometimes forget the other half of the equation. We overlook the space, the connection, and the moment when a patient feels deeply heard. This might be the first time in their lives.
Em shared stories of patients who experienced profound healing. This happened just by talking and just by being witnessed. This healing occurred before a remedy even touched their lips. And it made me wonder: Are we underestimating the power of our presence?
Psychotherapists have this down to a science. Irvin Yalom is one of the greatest minds in modern therapy. He talks about the healing power of the therapeutic relationship repeatedly. And guess what? Every single piece of research in that field supports it.
So why don’t we, as homeopaths, give ourselves more credit for the interaction itself? Why do we focus so much on the pill when we know that healing is about so much more?
Maybe it’s time to change that.
Balancing the Past and the Present
Here’s another thought-provoking takeaway: So many patients long for what they once had. They miss vitality, ease, energy, and a body that worked the way they wanted it to. And yet, homeopathy gently calls them back to the present. It doesn’t erase the past, nor does it rush them toward an idealized future. Instead, it brings them back to now. It brings them to balance and awareness. This helps them move forward with more grace.
Em framed it as a spiral, rather than a linear journey. Even when we revisit old patterns, we do so with greater awareness, greater wisdom.
That really stuck with me. Maybe healing isn’t about “going back” to anything. Maybe it’s about moving forward—with ease.
Homeopathy as a Love Story
At one point, I asked Em:
“If homeopathy were a love story, what would its central theme be?”
Her answer? Healing as a return to wholeness.
And honestly, that might be the most beautiful definition of homeopathy I’ve ever heard.
We’re not just treating symptoms. We’re not just finding the right remedy. We’re guiding people back to themselves, to their own inherent wisdom. To a state of wholeness—not perfection, but balance. Ease. Flow.
That’s the love story.
And if Em were to write a letter to homeopathy?
It would simply say:
“Thank you.”
Thank you for the patients.
Thank you for the discoveries.
Thank you for the joy, the community, the ever-expanding sense of possibility.
And thank you for the magic of it all.
What’s Next?
This conversation with Em reignited something in me. A reminder that homeopathy isn’t just a profession—it’s a journey. A deeply personal, often surprising, always fascinating journey.
And it’s one that’s meant to be shared.
So let’s keep telling these stories. Let’s bring our remedies to life. Let’s celebrate the profound, everyday magic of homeopathy.
Because this? This is just the beginning.
